Hi! I’m Devin. I’m sensibly impulsive, consistently non-committal, and passionately impartial. I’m a technologist living in Denver, Colorado.

College career posts

I know I haven’t been here very much lately. But, I have posted over at some of my favorite blogs. I wrote about my post-college career decision over at Employee Evolution. I also wrote at OkDork about how I think companies should recruit college grads. Check them out.

Brazen Careerist is a must-read

One of my favorite blogs to read is is called Brazen Careerist, by Penelope Trunk. She’s a syndicated career columnist that I’ve been following for a few months now. I point my friends to her articles, cite her ideas in conversation and now I’ve had a chance to read her new book: Brazen Careerist: The New Rules For Success.

Credit Balance Tip

If you’re like me, you enjoy spending all your money using a credit card (bonus miles, reward points, easier to track, etc.). But, when month-end comes and you spent $1,200 of your $1,800 limit it’s going to look really bad on your credit score (because you’re using a lot of credit). Since I’m paid twice a month I pay my bill twice a month. In other words, pay off your balance half-way through the month to keep your final balance low. Plus, it helps remind your checking account that you are indeed spending real money.

Video from China

If you’re looking for a little bit of world-culture today then stop by Viddler and check out my videos. I’ve posted some of my fun (favorite) videos. Click below to see my view atop the great wall.

An Open Letter to Google

Dear Google,

Everyone is Watching

We may think everyone cares about our every little detail. Perhaps we were brought up with a higher level of self esteem and self importance. We’re raised to believe that we’re all winners and we’re all important (Thanks, Mom). But, do people really care about what we’re always doing?

Back from China

My throat is sore from the Shanghai pollution but it was worth it. China was awesome. I’ve got some pictures up on Flickr now. Click around and leave your comments. A lot of stuff I did wasn’t documented with photos so I will be making a China journal in the coming days. Now I’ve got a lot of catching up to do…

Traveling to China

I think the biggest piece of advice anyone out of college would give is to travel while you’re young (and in college). I’ve heard it a number of times. From friends, family, family friends, professors, etc. Having seen my friends study abroad for months at a time and knowing that my elders are wiser than I, I’ve realized that it’s time for me to travel. So, I’m going to China…

Indiefy Private Beta

Another cool site has launched. Indiefy is “a site devoted to independent bands.” It looks like an interesting place for independent artists to sell their music; the FAQ is here. If anyone is interested in a beta invite you can leave the first comment on this post or go sign up here.

HighRise Launches

I’ve been waiting for this day. A contact manager slash CRM for friends, family, anything you could possibly want. I hope to use this to keep in touch with the many people in my life. Check it out: HighRiseHQ.com and the launch announcement here.
