I’m a huge fan of Google, it’s no secret. I finally found the opportunity to play with an Android device. I’ve used a first-generation iPhone exclusively since March 2008. I like change so I’ve taken a HTC Dream for a spin (using Cupcake 1.5) for the last two days. I have a few quick [...]
I get a lot of good emails but Rachel made a great observation today: Not only is “Spongebob” a trending topic on Twitter, but it’s “Wich Spongebob.” The fact that we have gazillions of people taking quizzes about their similarity to a Spongebob character is sad, but not nearly as sad as the fact that [...]
When the new site design launched nobody realized that Facebook added the ‘Top Friends’ functionality: I don’t see TechCrunch, Mashable, or anyone noticing this. But everyone was very quick to get upset when slide’s ‘Top Friends’ app was taken down (it was a legitimate security concern). I hate this short-term-memory-loss-lynch-mob we like to call the [...]
When you sign up and join Twitter it’s about a lot of things. Some say it’s an ecosystem, it’s about the simplicity, it’s about the voyeurism, it’s communication porn and so on. I think it’s also like walking into a chatroom with just the people you want. Any other chatroom (IRC, AOL, Yahoo Games!) has [...]
This weekend was the third iteration of Community Next and it was focused on developing for platforms (in other words: how to make money off of Facebook). I’ve been tossing around some ideas myself and only needed to listen to one or two panels to determine following: The “bubble” has decentralized. Instead of one big [...]
Keeping in touch isn’t easy sometimes. These days with hundreds of Facebook, MySpace, and Linkedin friends it can be overwhelming and even paralyzing to try and be a good friend to everyone. I’m sure we all have our close groups of friends: the ones we go out with, call occasionally, see on the weekends. But [...]
I had a blast last weekend in San Francisco. My buddy Noah (and Adam) hosted the second Community Next conference. Luckily I was invited. I’ve put some photos online and my quick thoughts are found below. VIP Dinner Friday was the VIP Dinner. I chatted with a bunch of awesome guys including the CTO of [...]
I love the internet. I’ve grown up with it. Even as a kid I remember being addicted to it. In fact, I sometimes forget how things got done before it was around. I can’t imagine what it was like to register for classes with a pencil and paper. It’s scary how much we rely on [...]
The year has come to an end. A lot went on for me. I’ve landed a job after college, worked seven jobs at once, helped run a professional fraternity of over 130 people, joined 9rules, left b5media, met new people, learned new things. It’s been fun. Oh, and if you missed it, I remade a [...]
Phishers aren’t stupid, they’ve got a pretty good thing going for them: free money. I think we’re all familiar with how phishing works. Someone sends out hundreds of thousands, if not millions of emails to people posing as a bank, eBay, PayPal, King of Zimbabwe, etc. Even if .0001% of the people who get these [...]
I received a neat little letter from Ford in the mail today. As with all junk mail, I opened it. To my surprise I was invited to purchase an 06/07 vehicle from Ford and instant get $500 off! Wowzers, Ford, great idea! Let me go visit your cool website: fordcollegehq.com. Whoa, wait. What is this? [...]
chartreuse (BETA) is often a very insightful blog. “Char” is a pretty sharp guy with short, smart posts about the “new media”. Today he explores the MySpace phenom and suggests that maybe we aren’t looking for hundreds of friends and people to connect to: “Maybe all the kids on MySpace aren
Many weeks ago I got a new computer and in order to cut down on useless, bloated programs I vowed not to install AIM. This is like my vow to never touch MySpace. Unfortunately there are still people that I want to access on AIM… but I don’t want to ever use AIM. In fact, [...]
People sometimes wonder what the motivation for blogging is. When I think about it, I’ve been doing this thing before ‘blogging’ was cool (on devdev.org, then BusinessBits) and I ask myself: Why keep doing it, Devin? Money I quickly snap back at myself “it’s all about the benjamins, baby!” I don’t mean to brag or [...]
I swear, any time that I decide I want to check out MySpace (only means of communication with some in-duh-viduals) it’s broken. I click a page, it says “error, under maintainance” I say “liar” and refresh and, wow, page magically loads. For being one of the most popular websites ever how the fuck is this [...]
The dipthongs over at the world’s shittiest website, MySpace, have had the site inoperable/down since 6:30PST, it is now over 5 hours later and nothing is fixed. Needless to say, my site has received a lot of visits/comments on MySpace downtime from kids wondering whats up. Who’s going to make the MySpace killer? Just import [...]
Well, since I’ve been tagged by Noah I guess I should use this as an excuse to blog. The meme is: what are your top 5 social media tools? I’m assuming that this really refers to any social software. If not, who cares? It’s my blog. In order of importance/frequency of use: Facebook Newsgator WordPress [...]
I wanted to get some information on Tourgasm, Dane Cook’s cleverly named comedy tour. When I visited the official website I was greeted with “The official trailer for the brand new HBO Comedy Documentary Series – Tourgasm!” When you hit Play you’re told the video has been removed for, get this, copyright infringement! YouTube, you [...]
MySpace is stupid as hell: “MySpace users who are 18 or over could no longer request to be on a 14- or 15-year-old’s friends’ list” (Link). Oh yeah, all those creepy adults can only see partial profiles, now. Mission accomplished, guys. Are you kidding me?! On a website where people are aged 69, 123, 184, [...]
As a follow up to this post (and this article) my brother has created, by far, the best MySpace profile out there (http://www.myspace.com/deoderizer). I hope ‘Right’ starts sending me ads and coupons soon! Maybe he’ll even fill out my ‘ten things’ bulletin!
Interesting article on how MySpace is thinking about… gasp… making money through advertising. Good thought! Their revolutionary thinking has essentially taken what Facebook has already done… and made it uglier… probably with music playing in the background: “To expand ad sales … [MySpace] plans to [turn] advertisers into members of the MySpace community, with their [...]
I have this weird feeling about blogging. I’ll write about topics but then I take a look at my visitors… many are here for the wrong reasons. I get 10 kids every day asking for MSN invites, I have another 20 Googleing myspace error messages and finding me. The rest are all here to take [...]
I use Google Talk primarily because it’s so simple and functional. As I’ve said before, MySpace is to AIM as Facebook is to Google Talk. Go ahead, try and sort out my cryptic comparisons. With that said, I’m excited to be using the new (leaked) update.
I’ve figured it out: MySpace sucks becuase so many people are on it. Yet, there’s no underlying commonality that anyone shares. Well, except the fact they’re social, they’re bored, and they like to spend time online… Facebook is about college students, parties, pictures, and hook-ups. Linked In is about professional connections, finding jobs, and building [...]
If you haven’t noticed, I don’t like MySpace very much (read MySpace Ads Suck). Just like I don’t like AIM (devinhatesaim is really my screenname). To me, AIM is to MySpace as Google Talk is to Facebook. Anyway, MySpace’s big ugly website and ads still suck. Apparently those terrible wastes of space –yes, the ads [...]
