I really despise our public school systems. For someone as un-smart as myself I’ve figured out how to “beat” them… that says a lot. Oh, and (as mentioned in Paul Graham’s article) our schools act more like prisons. Oh, and now we’re only going to teach the few things fom the national tests. Oh, and I can go on all night. Excuse the blunt remark but as far as education (and remaining competitive) is concerned: the U.S. is fucked.

I read your snipet and agreed. As a life long learner, I am always trying to be “educated”. “Smart people” don’t make the same mistakes over and over. “Educated people” don’t make the mistake in the first place. If I teach the child that it’s bad to stick things in outlets, then they will never suffer thru the lesson by ignoring the lesson.
I would suggest that you might rephrase.
“Gumamint Publik Skools are akin the Post Office running a prison.”
It’s not education, or schools, or learing, that you should be commenting on. It’s the government involved in anything.
If they can’t keep drugs out of their prisions, then why do we have a drug war? And on, and on, and on.
imho, your mileage can and will vary,
